A new opportunity is coming up in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for students studying engineering. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is gearing up to launch a four-year B.Tech course in Physical AI at BHU from the academic year 2027-28. For this, the proposal to establish a School of Physical AI in the Institute has been approved.
The course will teach students robotics, sensor technology, control of machines and practical application of AI. In this field, career opportunities can be found in areas such as industrial production, agriculture, health services and space exploration.
The new B.Tech course will start from 2027-28
Work towards starting a study of physical AI at IIT BHU has already started. The Institute’s Senate approved the proposal to establish a School of Physical AI on 17 October. Director Prof. to take charge of its management and establishment. An eight-member coordination committee has been formed under the leadership of Amit Patra. Rajeshkumar will be its Vice President Prof.
A team of teachers is also being prepared
A team of teachers is also being prepared for this new school. Faculty members of the institute are visiting centers in Poland, South Korea and other countries to develop better educational systems in the field.
What is Physical AI?
Physical AI is a form of artificial intelligence in which computer-based technology is connected to real-world machines and devices. In this, machines are enabled to understand the surrounding environment and act accordingly with the help of technologies like robots, sensors, cameras and motors. General AI works primarily on digital information, while physical AI is used to make machines that operate in the real world smarter.
Emphasis on robotics and machine control in the syllabus
Expert committees are working to prepare the syllabus for the four-year B.Tech course. These will include robotics, autonomous systems, sensor-based technologies, control of machines and practical applications of AI. Students will not be limited to programming, but will also be given hands-on experience in designing, manufacturing, testing machines and solving real problems.
Career opportunities can be found in these fields
After studying physical AI, there may be possibilities for students to work in many fields. These include areas such as robotics engineering, smart manufacturing, industrial automation, agricultural technology, health services and space exploration. However, the job opportunities will depend on the skills, expertise and industry demand of the students.
IIT will be BHU’s fifth school
The School of Physical AI will be the fifth school to be established at IIT BHU. The institute has previously established schools in Biomedical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Decision Science and Materials Science. At the same time, IIT Kharagpur has also announced the establishment of the Benjamin Gupta School of Physical AI on 26 October. An expenditure of 35 crore rupees has been fixed for this.
