Now crores of people are spending money to watch videos and listen to songs on YouTube. This is the reason why the total number of subscribers of YouTube Music and YouTube Premium has crossed 150 million i.e. 15 crore worldwide. Notably, this figure has come at a time when the company has increased the prices of its subscription plans. This shows the growing importance of paid services in YouTube’s business.
This information was given by Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai during the company’s third quarter financial results. Both services had a combined subscriber base of 12.5 crore earlier this year. That means 2.5 crore new users have joined in a short time. However, this figure also includes people using the free trial. Therefore, 15 crores cannot be considered as the number of paid users who have taken full subscription.
Premium users can get new features
YouTube is preparing to add new options for its paid users. According to reports, the company may offer the Peacock Premium feature to its customers next year. Apart from this, the audiobook option may also be available in the near future. At the same time, Premium Lite is available for those who find the whole premium plan expensive. You see fewer ads in it, but not all premium features related to music are available.
YouTube also earns big from advertisements
YouTube’s earnings don’t just come from subscriptions. The company is also making good money from advertisements. In the third quarter, YouTube made $11.21 billion from ads, or about Rs. 1.06 lakh crore has been earned. Which is 9.2 percent more than last year. More than one-third of this revenue came from people watching YouTube on connected TVs.
According to Google executive Philip Schindler, more than 20 million videos are uploaded to YouTube every day. The company is also adding new features to YouTube Studio to edit videos with the help of AI. However, the company has not yet revealed how many of its 150 million subscribers use YouTube Music and how many take premium plans. It is also not specified which countries have the highest number of customers.
