Landslides and avalanches continue to wreak havoc in Nepal due to heavy rains. At least 14 people have died and more than a dozen are missing. Many visuals on social media show a horrific landslide near Baglung, with large chunks of mountains collapsing in seconds. In the video, a large part of the mountain can be seen collapsing into the river.
Landslides occurred on the 10th and 11th in Asoj’s Tamankhola, Nisikhola and Taraghola rural municipalities, causing damage to houses and infrastructure at several places. A search and rescue operation is underway in coordination with various agencies, while officials are gathering more information and investigating the incident.
At the same time, an avalanche has wreaked havoc on Monday. On Monday, four more bodies were recovered from an avalanche site on the Himlung Himal peak in Nepal, while 12 people are still missing. On Sunday, an avalanche hit the base camp of the 7,126-meter Himalung Himal peak in the Nar Phu area of Nepal’s Manang district, burying a tent where climbers and support staff were taking shelter, and leaving several workers and guides missing.
Nepal The search and rescue operation of the National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA) is on and so far four bodies have been recovered from the Himlung Himal avalanche site. Rescue teams today recovered the bodies of Birendra Gurung and Ghan Shyam Rai, a day earlier the bodies of climbing guides Hebi Bhote and Pasang Bhote were found. The search operation is on, and the team is working for another 3-4 hours if conditions permit.
10 people have died in the landslide
At the same time, 10 people have died due to landslides. According to Nepal Police, the deceased include 65-year-old Udisara BK and 50-year-old Hastveer BK of Santar in Tamankhola Rural Municipality-4. Even after this incident, fifty-two-year-old Punasara B.K. 80-year-old Buddhiraj Gharti and 66-year-old Bhimdevi Gharti were killed in a landslide at Dhanarkuk in Tamankhola Rural Municipality-3. Surya Bahadur Gharti, 50, of Selwang, Nisikhola Rural Municipality-6, also died.

Four people of the same family were killed when a house was buried in a landslide in Kanthekharia of Nisikhola Village Municipality-3. The deceased have been identified as 36-year-old Shyamkumari BK, 13-year-old Manoj BK, 8-year-old Mukesh BK and 3-year-old Nishan BK. 59-year-old Maan Bahadur Rokka of Dharmar of Taraghola Rural Municipality-5 also died in the landslide.
Floods and landslides occurred due to rain. The deaths in Baglung come amid incessant rains in Nepal since Thursday, causing floods, waterlogging and landslides in many parts of the country. According to the information, at least 14 people have died in Nepal.
After the tragedy, relief and rescue work has been intensified
On Sunday morning, authorities issued a warning to people living along the Narayani River in central Nepal as the river crossed the 9-meter warning level and entered settlements. The highway leading to Chitwan also remained closed and landslides were reported at several places.
Earlier, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Authority (NDRRMA) reported at least six deaths in the devastation caused by rains from Thursday to Saturday evening, while four more people were killed in landslides in Myagadi district on Sunday morning. “In Annapurna village council, four people have been confirmed dead in the landslide,” village council chairman Bharat Kumar Pune told ANI over phone. Landslides have hampered search and rescue operations at many places and incessant rains are worsening the situation, officials said.
