Economic relations between India and America are now entering a new phase. Addressing business majors and diplomats at the ‘Freedom 250’ reception in Mumbai, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore laid out a blueprint for the future of both countries. Gore said that US President Donald Trump has sent him to India with very clear orders. Don’t just talk about the future, bring results and make them a reality, Trump said. According to Gore, President Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have also repeated this promise during recent conversations. Today, mutual trade between the two countries has crossed 240 billion dollars, breaking all previous records. Now the entire focus of both the countries is on doubling this figure to cross 500 billion dollars in the next three years.
Indo-US partnership will extend from deep sea to space
Ambassador Sergio Gore made it clear that this economic expansion will take place in important areas related to future technologies. These include major sectors like semiconductors, critical minerals, energy, defense and superintelligence. Talking about the momentum of the relationship between the two countries, Gore said that the partnership between India and the US does not run in a straight line, rather it is constantly moving upwards.
He said this relationship starts with the vital data infrastructure present in the deep ocean. From there, it passes through the factories, laboratories and research centers of both countries and into deep space via commercial space exploration. Gore said that the roots of our galaxy are very strong and that it is growing at record speeds and heading straight for the stars. Recalling the historical relations between the two countries at the ‘Freedom 250’ event, he said that what we have seen in the last 250 years has been great, but what we hope to see in the next 250 years will be even better.
More than 500 big American companies are working in Mumbai
Ambassador Gore presented several interesting statistics explaining the importance of Mumbai in this economic partnership. He said that more than 500 big American companies are working in Mumbai city alone. Which includes giants in the technology sector, Google, Meta and IBM. While in the consumer sector, major companies like Procter & Gamble (P&G) and Johnson & Johnson are present.
In the pharmaceutical sector, companies such as Pfizer, Abbott and Merck are operating here, while in the financial sector, large institutions such as Citi, Bank of America and JP Morgan Chase have a strong presence. Apart from this, American institutional investors account for the largest share of foreign capital in Indian stocks traded on the Mumbai Stock Exchange. Gore said that this was no coincidence, but a proof of America’s confidence in India’s economic progress. All this did not happen suddenly or overnight.
Marco Rubio said – Both countries will write the history of the 21st century
On the other hand, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also described the strategic coordination between India and the US as ‘extraordinary’. Addressing the event, Rubio said that the two countries have a golden opportunity to shape the direction of the 21st century through their partnership. Speaking very pragmatically, he acknowledged that Washington and New Delhi could not agree on every issue.
Rubio made it clear that no two countries on earth can fully agree on everything and there will surely be times when there will be disagreements on some issues. But there is remarkable synergy between India and the US on fundamental issues that determine the national interests of both countries. These shared interests have the power to influence world politics, economy, trade and commerce for decades to come.
Rubio asserted that when India, with a population of about 1.5 billion, and the world’s largest economy, the United States, come together, the importance of this collaboration increases. Both the countries can write the history of 21st century together by working on issues related to tomorrow. He also described India as America’s most important strategic partner and advocated intensifying diplomatic dialogue between the two countries.
