MUMBAI, October 29, 2026 — Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), the Tata Group-owned hospitality company, has signed a multi-hotel operating agreement with Adani Airport Holdings Limited to develop eight hotels with more than 2,000 rooms across four Indian cities.

The properties will be located in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Guwahati, catering to business travelers, tourists and passengers seeking accommodation near major aviation hubs. The hotels will operate under IHCL’s Taj, Vivanta, Gateway and Ginger brands.

The agreement strengthens the partnership between two major Indian business groups as airport operators increasingly look beyond aviation to develop hotels, retail spaces, offices and other commercial facilities around airports.

Eight Hotels Planned Across Four Cities

The agreement covers three Taj hotels, two Vivanta properties, one Gateway hotel and two Ginger hotels. The portfolio spans luxury, premium and midscale accommodation, allowing the companies to target travelers with different budgets and needs.

The planned locations are:

  • Mumbai: A Taj hotel is under construction at Terminal 2 of Mumbai’s airport.
  • Ahmedabad: The city will have a Taj and a Vivanta hotel, both reported to be in advanced stages of construction.
  • Lucknow: The development includes a Vivanta and a Ginger hotel.
  • Guwahati: The city will receive a Taj, a Gateway and a Ginger hotel.

Together, the properties are expected to provide more than 2,000 rooms, along with accommodation, dining, meeting and event facilities, wellness services and recreational amenities.

Why IHCL and Adani Are Expanding Airport Hospitality

India’s growing aviation market is creating opportunities for businesses located around major airports. Hotels near terminals can serve passengers with early departures, late arrivals, connecting flights and extended stopovers, as well as corporate travelers attending meetings in nearby commercial districts.

IHCL Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Puneet Chhatwal said airport-centered developments are becoming important commercial and hospitality hubs as India’s aviation sector expands. The partnership will strengthen the company’s presence at key travel gateways.

For Adani Airport Holdings, the agreement supports a broader strategy to turn airport-adjacent land into integrated destinations combining hospitality, retail, business and leisure facilities.

Rather than relying solely on passenger traffic and aviation-related revenue, these developments aim to create additional commercial activity around airports and improve the experience of visitors and local businesses.

Taj, Vivanta, Gateway and Ginger Target Different Travelers

The four IHCL brands will allow the partnership to serve several customer segments. Taj will provide luxury accommodation, while Vivanta targets premium travelers. Gateway and Ginger will expand the options for guests seeking different styles and price points.

This multi-brand approach can help the companies serve international visitors, domestic tourists, corporate guests and passengers who need convenient accommodation close to an airport.

The mix also gives Adani’s airport developments access to an established hospitality operator with brands positioned across several market segments.

Adani’s Airport City Plans Extend Beyond Hotels

Adani Airport Holdings has been developing a broader airport-city strategy that combines aviation infrastructure with commercial and lifestyle projects. The company’s plans include hospitality, retail, entertainment, convention facilities and office space around selected airport locations.

In June 2026, Adani Airport Holdings outlined an airport-city development program covering more than 655 acres across six airports in five states. The first phase was planned to include approximately 22 million square feet of mixed-use development, backed by investment of more than ₹20,000 crore.

The eight-hotel agreement with IHCL adds a significant hospitality component to this wider strategy. The developments are intended to connect airport infrastructure with surrounding urban economies and support demand from business and leisure travelers.

What the Agreement Means for India’s Hotel Industry

The partnership reflects a growing focus on airport-linked hospitality as passenger traffic, tourism and business travel expand. Hotels in these locations can benefit from demand that differs from traditional leisure destinations or city-center properties.

For IHCL, the agreement adds to its portfolio across important transport gateways and provides opportunities to expand its brands in multiple cities. For Adani Airport Holdings, the hotels form part of a wider effort to develop commercial assets around its airport network.

The projects’ construction and opening schedules will determine when travelers can begin using the new properties. The agreement establishes the operating partnership, but the hotels should not be considered open until their respective launch dates are announced.
