Jamia Millia Islamia University has announced to hold student union elections after almost 20 years. On Monday, issuing an order in this regard, the university administration said that the elections will be held 15 days after the approval of the constitution of the student union. However, the agitating students are not satisfied with this decision of the administration. The students say that the order did not mention any fixed date for approving the constitution. Apart from this, no decision has been taken on the demand for the resignation of the proctor. In such a situation, the students have decided to continue their protest.
Announcement of student union elections after 20 years
Jamia Millia Islamia University has decided to resume the process of student union elections. According to the order issued by the university administration, the election will be held within 15 days of the approval of the constitution of the student union. In the year 2006, the student union of the university was dissolved. Since then students have been demanding the restoration of an elected student union.
The registrar met the protesting students in the morning
University registrar Mahtab Alam Rizvi arrived at 4.30 am on Monday to talk to the protesting students. Meanwhile, he shared the order issued by the administration with the students. He also appealed to the students to end the agitation. The registrar said that the administration has accepted the demands of the students. However, the students did not consider this order sufficient and raised their objection.

Displeasure over the election date not being clear
The protesting students say the university administration has announced to hold elections, but has not specified when the process will begin. The order only said that elections would be held 15 days after the constitution was approved. As the date for approving the constitution has not been fixed, the students have doubts about the time frame for the elections.
Demands for Proctor’s resignation also continue
Students have also expressed their displeasure over the demand for the proctor’s resignation. He says that the movement is not only to conduct student union elections, but also to ensure democratic rights and effective participation of students on campus.
The students have made it clear that the protest will continue until the administration takes a clear decision on all their demands. In such a situation, despite the announcement of elections, the dispute between the university administration and the agitating students has not ended completely.
