Volkswagen has taken a big step into the Indian market with its premium SUV Tiguan R-Line. The company has removed the car from its official Indian website. It is being speculated that its sale may now be discontinued. However, Volkswagen has not made any official statement regarding this yet. Currently, only the Taigun and Tayron SUVs are listed on the company’s website.
The Tiguan R-Line was launched in India in April 2025. The company imported it from abroad and sold it through the completely built unit (CBU) route. Its last ex-showroom price was Rs 47.11 lakh. This was Volkswagen’s most expensive and flagship SUV in India.
The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line had a powerful engine
The Tiguan R-Line was a 5-seater premium mid-size SUV. It was powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, which generates 201 bhp of power and 320 Nm of torque. A 7-speed DSG gearbox was available with this engine. The special thing was that it offered Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel drive system as standard.
The company launched this SUV only in a fully loaded variant. Its sporty look and premium features set it apart from the standard Tiguan sold earlier in India.
Tayron R-Line and Tayron Life are also options
Along with Tiguan R-Line, Volkswagen’s large SUV Tayron R-Line is also present in the market. It is slightly larger in size and has 3-row seating. Its ex-showroom price is Rs 47.74 lakh, which is very close to the Tiguan R-Line’s last price.
Unlike the Tiguan, the Teron is assembled locally in India. It is brought in through the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route and manufactured at Volkswagen’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant. For this reason the company is able to sell it in different variants.
This also includes the Teron Life, a 5-seater version of the 7-seater Teron. It offers more space in the second row and a bigger boot. Its ex-showroom price is Rs 41.99 lakh. That means it’s a slightly cheaper entry into Volkswagen’s premium SUV range.
Now Volkswagen has only two SUVs left
After removing the Tiguan R-Line from the website, now only the Taigun and the Tayron remain in Volkswagen’s SUV range in the Indian market. The Taigun is the company’s more affordable SUV, while the Tayron is designed to target customers who want a larger, premium and more feature-rich SUV.
