Lok Adalat: Traffic rules are becoming increasingly strict in big cities. In a metropolis like Delhi, the traffic police monitor every intersection through cameras. If you make even the slightest mistake, the currency is deducted directly and sent to your phone. Out of fear, some people pay the fine immediately. But many people are postponing it by seeing the huge amount. In such a situation the burden of pending challans increases. If you have such old currency hanging over your head, then there is a big relief news for you. Delhi Traffic Police has announced a new National Lok Adalat to get rid of pending challans. Now you can go to court on 25th October 2026 and get your old bills settled at a very low cost.

The date was postponed due to the BRICS conference

Indeed, the traffic police had earlier fixed September 12 as the date for the Lok Adalat. But in the meantime BRICS Summit 2026 was being organized in the capital Delhi. Routes were diverted at many places in the city due to the VVIP movement. The Lok Adalat had to be adjourned to avoid any inconvenience to the common people due to the special security protocol in force. Earlier news was coming that the court will be held on October 10. But now the traffic police has officially clarified that the new court will be held on 25 October 2026 only.

In which cases relief will be given

Now the biggest question that arises is which currency will be waived in court. According to traffic police, all pending challans till June 30, 2026 will be accepted in this court. Apart from this, the cases which have been transferred to the e-court portal can also be disposed of. If your challan is for jumping red light, parking in no-parking, over speeding, driving without helmet or without seatbelt, you will get huge relief. But if the challan is for drunken driving, causing an accident due to negligence or any serious offence, it will not be condoned in this court.

Procedure to Download Challan Slip

Before going to court you have to do one important thing. For this it is very important to have a currency slip. You will be able to download your slip from the official website of Delhi Traffic Police from 19 October 2026 from 10 AM onwards. Police have set the limit to ensure that the website does not crash the server. Only 50,000 people can download the slip in a day. The download link will stop as soon as the quota of 2 lakh slips is reached. So, it would be wise to book your slot on time.

How to get relief in court

After booking the slip, you have to go to the allotted court premises on the scheduled date. While going to the court, do not forget to carry the original RC of the vehicle, your driving license, any identification documents with you. You should also have a copy of the challan slip. When your number comes before a judge in court, you can present your case and request a reduced fine. After mutual consent, the judge can reduce your heavy fine to a very small amount.
