Luxury supercar manufacturing company McLaren is in discussion about its new car. The company has installed a large statue of a kiwi bird in London’s Covent Garden, with the inscription ‘McL 820’. The color of this idol is black and saffron. This is believed to be an indication of the company’s upcoming new supercar. If the power estimate as per the name is correct then it can get around 809bhp. If that happens, it could become the most powerful series-production McLaren ever.
What does the name McL 820 indicate?
McLaren often hints at the power of their cars through the numbers in their names. In such a case, the name of the McL 820 is speculating that its output might be 820 PS i.e. around 809bhp. This will be a lot more than the current 750S’s 740bhp.
The use of ‘McL’ in the name is also special. The name was previously seen with the McL 6GT, which was shown at this year’s Monterey Car Week.
What is the connection with the Kiwi statue?
The Kiwi icon has a long association with McLaren’s identity. This reflects the New Zealand origins of company founder Bruce McLaren. The company is also using this mascot named ‘Speedy Kiwi’ in its promotions. However, McLaren has not yet clarified whether McL 820 is the name of the production car or not.
It is expected to get a hybrid V8 engine
The new McL 820 is likely to get a hybrid V8 engine. For the first time, the company is working towards making its own engines. Its power can be around 820 PS. In this respect, it can compete with cars like Ferrari 12Cilindri, Aston Martin Vanquish, Ferrari 296 and Lamborghini Temerario.
May replace 750S
The McL 820 is considered similar to the current McLaren 750S. The 750S may be discontinued next year. The company has already informed about taking the last order for this model.
