The exam pattern may change for students preparing for NEET-UG and CUET-UG. The Ministry of Education has proposed to conduct main entrance examinations at least twice a year. Currently, JEE Main is conducted twice a year, while NEET UG and CUET UG are usually conducted once a year. The proposal aims to reduce the pressure of a single exam on students and reduce their dependence on private coaching institutes. Apart from this, special training of teachers has also been suggested to strengthen the preparation of competitive examinations in schools.

Suggestion to take the main entrance exams twice

The education ministry had set up a nine-member committee in June 2025 to consider measures to reduce students’ dependence on coaching institutions. In its recommendations, the committee has suggested holding major entrance exams like NEET and CUET at least twice a year. This arrangement allows students to get two chances in the exam. This will reduce reliance on a single attempt and may also reduce exam pressure. However, this proposal is still at the draft stage.

The difficulty level of the question paper will be reviewed

The committee also recommended a review of the procedure for preparation of question papers for entrance examinations. Questions have often been raised from students and parents that some questions are more difficult than the prescribed syllabus. The proposal emphasizes keeping the difficulty level of the questions according to the class and syllabus of the students.

Also pay attention to state board syllabus

The draft also suggests that questions in entrance exams should not be limited to NCERT syllabus only. The curriculum taught in different states and school boards should also be considered. Its purpose is to give equal opportunity in the examination to the students coming from different boards.

School teachers will get special training

The Ministry of Education has also proposed special training for school teachers. Through which the teachers will be able to guide the students as per the requirement of the competitive exams. Along with this, it is expected that students will get better academic support at the school level and their dependence on private coaching will be reduced. However, the government’s final approval will be required before implementing these changes.
