The company has been directed to maintain a complete record of products withdrawn from the market and to submit relevant information and status reports in due time. FSSAI has also asked the company to make necessary improvements so that such problems do not recur.

Dirt and germs are found in the bakery

During FSSAI’s inspection, several serious deficiencies related to sanitation and hygiene were found in the bakery of Creative Bakers and Confectioners. During the inspection, dirt, grease, dust, spider webs and flies were found in the food production and handling areas.

Besides, perishable raw materials were kept in the open. Rusty and not properly cleaned containers were used to store raw and semi-finished products. There was also a pest problem in the premises and the pest control system was not adequate.

The investigation also found that the fly control system was inadequate and there was not enough protection against rodents. There were no insect nets on the windows and other places either.

Garbage and spoiled items found in food area

FSSAI’s inspection also found waste, old stock, rejected goods and scrap in the food handling area. Apart from this, some machines were rusted. The paint on the walls was peeling and there was a damp problem in the premises. The floor tiles were also seen broken at some places.

Important records and systems related to food safety were also not maintained properly during the investigation. It includes testing of water and finished products, time and temperature monitoring, inspection of machines, required maintenance, mock recalls, customer complaints, employee training and audit records.

Creative Bakers license suspended

In view of these deficiencies, FSSAI immediately suspended the license of Creative Bakers and Confectioners Pvt. The company has been directed to stop all food business activities during the period of suspension.

FSSAI has also taken action on a batch of pre-packaged jeera powder of Everest Food Products Pvt. The sample was taken from the premises of Riverside Resorts and Holiday Homes Private Limited, Goa.

In a food analyst’s report, the residue of pesticides azoxystrobin and thiamethoxam in cumin powder was found to be above the prescribed limit. The sample was then declared unsafe under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Cumin powder unsafe even after re-examination

The company was given an opportunity to appeal against the food analyst’s report. After this the sample was sent to the referral food laboratory.

An investigation by a referral food laboratory revealed that the amount of azoxystrobin and thiamethoxam in cumin powder was above the prescribed limit. The lab also declared the sample unsafe.
